Winx and Hugh Bowman make history with unprecedented fourth win in the Cox Plate

Chris Waller's mare was winning her fourth Cox Plate in a row under ice-cool jockey Hugh Bowman.

After a huge build up to the race, thanks to Sun Racing's Matt Chapman, there was huge excitement at Moonee Valley ahead of the race.

Incredibly there was a real belief that British challenger Benbatl could spoil the party but in reality there was only one winner.

In a tactically run affair, Bowman was always well positioned and as they rounded the home turn the jockey let Winx loose down the outside.

She showed her customary turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides with Benbatl battling away on the inside for second.

WONDER DOWN UNDER Who is Winx? The Aussie superstar who won record fourth Cox Plate

Bowman eased Chris Waller's superstar down at the line and Winx once again confirmed herself as a true champion racehorse.

The winning jockey told racing.com: "I can't believe it. I really thought in the build up to the race I would get quite emotional, I am feeling emotional but the electricity that came through my body when I turned into the home straight just then was something I guess I only get to feel.

"Everyone watching gets so much joy and pleasure out of the superb ability of this wonderful horse. The fact she's been able to do it so many times consecutively just speaks volumes for the management of her.

"I really felt (the pressure) this week, more than I have before. On Thursday I rang a few close mates to have a bit of a chat, I just try to do things to keep my mind occupied.

"I'm just so proud to be part of this amazing story."
