Will Smith lands first big free-agency deal of offseason from Braves

The first big signing of MLB’s offseason was completed on Thursday, not long after the GM Meetings ended.

The Atlanta Braves inked Giants closer Will Smith to a three-year, $40 million deal, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed. It comes with a $1 million buyout option for the 2023 season.

The move gives the defending NL East champs a solid arm to close out games after it failed to find a lock-down closer last season.

Smith, who grew up in Atlanta, had 48 saves over the past two seasons for San Francisco. The Giants had offered Smith, 30, a qualifying offer, which means they will receive draft-pick compensation.

Smith planned on accepting the one-year deal from the Giants if a better option did not develop. It did not take long for one to come through.
