ENGLAND are chasing a first World Cup since 2003.

The Red Rose are in Japan ahead of this autumns tournament – but full-back Mike Brown won't be involved after missing out on the 31-man squad.

Why isn't Mike Brown playing for England?

HARLEQUINS ace Brown was desperate to feature in his second World Cup having forced his way back into international reckoning.

The 33-year-old looked set to be on the plane to Japan after promising performances throughout 2019.

But an alleged bust-up with Ben Te’o on a Treviso training camp has seen Brown and the centre out of Eddie Jones' plans.

Brown maintains he was attacked by an out-of-control Te’o on a team bonding session in Italy.

The Quins star is adamant he was set upon by Te’o, 32, and did not retaliate but was devastated to be branded responsible by boss Jones and his coaching staff.

As such, he won't be appearing at the World Cup unless injuries potentially open the door.

Brown is fighting the decision and has reiterated that he believes himself to be England's best full-back.

He told the BBC: "I tried to put everything I had on the training field, but it wasn't enough in the end.

"That's the nature of team sport and selection – it's one man's opinion.

"I feel like I'm the best English full-back, and I think I showed that last season
