Watch Konate almost choke on confetti during Liverpool's Carabao Cup final celebrations to leave Robertson in stitches

IBRAHIMA KONATE won his first trophy as a Liverpool player on Sunday… but it almost came at a cost.

The £36million summer signing nearly CHOKED on the confetti that was blasted at the Liverpool players as they lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

Konate came on at the start of extra time and slotted his penalty past substitute keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the dramatic 11-10 shootout win.

The 22-year-old then marched up the Wembley steps to take his place alongside his team-mates for the trophy lift.

But as Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson lifted the cup into the air, Konate had a more pressing issue on his mind.

A piece of confetti managed to fly into his open mouth as he celebrated victory.

The defender immediately yanked the misbehaving piece of paper out away from his lips as it did its best to spoil his party.

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson spotted Konate's unfortunate mishap while standing next to him during the presentation.

But rather than give Konate a hand the Scotland captain simply burst out laughing as his defensive colleague struggled to clear his mouth.

Konate has impressed when stepping in this campaign, but Joel Matip's form has largely seen him restricted to playing in cup competitions.

But with Liverpool still challenging for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, Konate may well be in the firing line of more confetti before the season's out.

The Reds are six points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand, and have a 2-0 advantage going into their Champions League last-sixteen second leg against Inter Milan.

Jurgen Klopp is yet to win the FA Cup with Liverpool, but a fifth round clash against Prem strugglers Norwich on Wednesday offers a good opportunity to progress to the last-eight.

So Konate may well be on a winners podium again in the coming months, but it's safe to say he'll be keeping his mouth shut from now on.
