Washington downed the New York Rangers 5-2 Friday. The Capitals took advantage of a tired Rangers team in the third period, scoring twice to seal the game.

The Blackhawks defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in overtime behind a stronger defensive effort.

Capitals at Blackhawks: Projected starting goalies

Braden Holtby vs. Corey Crawford

Holtby is 2-1-2 with a .862 save percentage (stopping 125 of 145 shots) and a 3.83 goals against average in six games. He has bookended quality starts with four outings that represented total disaster. Even Friday’s win against the Rangers was a bit of an adventure as Holtby survived two posts and two crossbars being hit.

Crawford is 1-2 with a 3.40 goals against average and .900 save percentage. He has one quality start on the season and that was against the Edmonton Oilers – where he allowed just one goal while facing 28 shots. Crawford was rested against Columbus the other night so he has had five days of rest between starts.
