Warren hails Warrington's win over Framption as 'best ever fight' in British ring

The Leeds warrior once again upset the odds to make a successful defence of his IBF featherweight world title and stay undefeated.

Warrington won all three judges scorecards, 116-113, 116-112, 116-112, but that didn’t tell the full story of what was a war between the ropes.

And Warren, who promotes both fighters, could not hide his delight after backing up his claim that the clash had all the hallmarks of a classic.

Speaking afterwards at the Manchester Arena, the Hall of Fame promoter said: “That for me is the best title fight I’ve ever seen in a British ring.

“Two superb athletes, the manner it was fought, the pace the tempo, everything, and importantly the sportsmanship, touching gloves at the end of each round.

“That’s what boxing is about. They were like two Mexicans in there.

“This is one of those nights where you say ‘I was there, I watched it’.

“That was a better fight than Canelo and Golovkin and that was a great fight.

“That’s how it is, that type of night. The best I’ve seen in a British ring.”

Warrington, 28, was a deserved winner on the night against two-time world champ Frampton, who will be left considering his future in the sport.

But for Warrington, the future is much clearer – with Warren believing his man can dominate the division.

Leo Santa Cruz, whose only loss is against Frampton, holds the WBA version. Gary Russell Jr is the WBC holder with Oscar Valdez owning the WBO belt.

Warren added: “I like the Valdez fight for Josh, it goes without saying.

“I think he is the best featherweight in the world right now. I fancy him to beat Valdez, I fancy him to beat Santa Cruz. He’s the best in the world.

“He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s got an engine on him. The workrate, who could keep up with that?”
