Wales coach Shaun Edwards left hanging by Rob Howley for high five during Scotland clash

But his coaches Shaun Edwards and Rob Howley looked more like slap Dragons as they cocked up a high five celebration.

Wales' 18-11 victory away to Scotland means they will clinch the Six Nations crown if they land their fifth win next weekend – against Ireland in Cardiff.

And boss Gatland will hope his men have a better understanding on the pitch than defence coach Edwards and fellow assistant Howley showed in the Murrayfield stands.

Jonathan Davies had just barged over after 23 phases to put Wales 15-6 up against the depleted Scots.

And a seated Edwards kept his eyes on the action in front of him as he put his arm back for a slap-hand celebration with Howley, who was standing behind him.

Unfortunately, Howley was too busy doing some old-fashioned clapping – and left Edwards hanging.

When Howley did finally spot the Englishman, he went for a belated high-five – but at precisely the time Edwards was withdrawing his arm.

Cue an embarrassing mid-air miss.

Luckily it was smoother out in the middle for Wales, as Gatland landed his 11th win in 11 games against Scotland.

Josh Adams and Davies touched down to make it look relatively easy.

But Darcy Graham scored on his first start to spark a Scottish comeback, albeit not strong enough to prevent their third straight defeat.

So Wales remain in a handy position to beat pre-tournament favourites Ireland and England to the title.
