Vikings fire offensive coordinator John DeFilippo after loss to Seahawks, per report

The Minnesota Vikings didn't wait to take action after their offense once again sputtered Monday night in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo was fired by the team on Tuesday, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

DeFilippo, 40, was hired this offseason to replace Pat Shumur, who accepted the New York Giants' head coaching job. DeFilippo previously served as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach, helping develop Carson Wentz over the last two years, and was listed by many as a potential head coaching candidate for next year.

But the Vikings posted less than 300 yards of offense for the fourth time in five games on Monday in a 21-7 loss to the Seahawks. Minnesota has lost three of its last four games to fall to 6-6-1.

Wide receiver Adam Thielen said after the game DeFilippo was not to blame for the unit's struggles.

“You hear the offensive coordinator is getting a lot of ridicule, but it’s about the players,” Thielen said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “The players have got to make the plays. It doesn’t matter what play is called, you have to run that play and you have to be successful on it. It just comes down to execution, all 11 players doing the right thing.’’
