USWNT’s Megan Rapinoe expects to play in World Cup final after hamstring strain

Megan Rapinoe expects to play in Sunday’s World Cup final despite dealing with a hamstring strain.

“Just a little minor strain. Day to day, but I feel like I’ll be ready for the final,” Rapinoe said Tuesday after the USWNT’s 2-1 semifinal win over England.

Rapinoe didn’t play in Tuesday’s win because of the injury. The USWNT played its quarterfinal game against France on Friday, meaning the players had just three days off between games. Rapinoe, who turns 34 years old on Friday, picked up the injury during the second half of that quarterfinal.

“It’s hard three days on the bounce in this old body,” Rapinoe said.

Christen Press, who started in Rapinoe’s place, scored the opening goal.

Rapinoe was wearing tape on her right leg during the USWNT’s practice on Monday.
