TYSON FURY'S dad did not speak to him for five weeks before the Deontay Wilder fight – because he feared his son would end up in a wheelchair.
The odds were against the Gypsy King when he came up against the WBC heavyweight champion last December following his battle with drug addiction and depression.
Despite winning both of his comeback fights, the 31-year-old did not have the support of his nearest and dearest ahead of the showdown in Los Angeles.
He told talkSPORT: "The people who always believed in me even doubted me, even my family.
"I am not sure my trainer thought I would win.
"My dad did not speak to me for five weeks of the training camp because he thought I would get knocked out and put in a wheelchair."
But Fury was robbed of one of the greatest comebacks in history when the fight ended as a controversial draw.
Fury, who recently won his WWE debut against Braun Strowman, survived two brutal knockdowns.
He added: "I am a firefighter and a gunslinger. Wilder came in to finish me and I slipped two and came back and caught, I fought fire with fire."
Fury's father did not support the fight against the Bronze Bomber, but he did move in with the Gypsy King during tougher times.
Speaking of his troubles, the 31-year-old said: "I moved my dad into my house with me because I couldn't sleep in my house alone.
"I thought someone was coming to get me. I couldn't sleep with the light off.

Fury has been training for a potential UFC career with Darren Till, but will be back in camp on January 10 to prepare for his fight against Wilder.
The 31-year-old will have another shot at the American when they collide on February 22.
