Tottenham fans on verge of ‘nervous breakdown’ as Champions League final prep ramps up

SPURS fans are unleashing their fears and dreams – with some on the verge of a "nervous breakdown" – as preparations for the Champions League final take shape.

Social media brimmed with tension and excitement, just as a fan zone was being erected in Madrid for the showpiece against Liverpool at Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on June 1.

Many Tottenham supporters posted stressed memes, while others – perhaps superstitious – tried to talk down their chances… recalling how much of the football world had written Spurs off in the past two rounds against Manchester City and Ajax.

Few teams will have won both their last-eight and semi-final ties as dramatically as Tottenham did.

And one fan tweeted: "Let's face facts. We got no chance. I said the same thing against Man City & Ajax ?"

A similarly tongue-in-cheek post was: "Lets be honest guys, Liverpool deserves to win this they are so much better than us. We really stand no chance."

But the main theme was "we all believe".

And those fans who have stumped up for travel and tickets to actually be in the stadium were the most pumped up.

One said: "Will be watching in the stadium, can't wait!!"

And the very next post read: "Just got my travel sorted – gonna be one hell of a party! COYS!!!!!!!!"

Tottenham themselves had ramped up the mood by tweeting: "1️⃣0️⃣ days to go…"

The countdown comes as cranes are constructing the fan zone, to house both sets of supporters in what will be a crowded city centre.

And not even exorbitant prices for tickets, flights and Madrid accommodation have detracted from the huge numbers who will descend on Madrid from Britain.
