Tottenham could be left without stadium for Manchester City on October 28 with Wembley already booked

Spurs released an urgent statement this evening explaining their new stadium will not be ready and have moved their games against Liverpool and Cardiff to Wembley.

But the clash against Manchester City is listed as "venue TBC" on Tottenham's website.

Wembley is already booked for NFL that day as Philadelphia Eagles take on Jacksonsville Jaguars.

One option would be to switch the game to the Etihad, as Liverpool did against Burnley when their new stand was built two years ago.

Daniel Levy, Tottenham's chairman, said: "We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide.

"We appreciate the support our partner the NFL has shown since the extent of this issue became evident today.

"At the start of the project we asked for your support during what we knew would be a complex and challenging build and now we ask for your continued patience and forbearance."

The club admitted that "recent testing and commissioning has now shown issues with the critical safety systems" and therefore the necessary tests cannot be completed in time.

The games against Liverpool and Cardiff, dated September 15th and October 6th respectively, have been switched to the national stadium, along with the NFL match between Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders on October 14th.

But with Shahid Khan's Jaguars due to play at Wembley on October 28th and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium not ready, that leaves Spurs without a ground to host the visit of the Premier League champions.

With the venue for the City match classed as "TBC", there is still a chance that the new stadium could be ready in time and would therefore be played at Tottenham's ground after all.

If Tottenham are drawn a home tie in the Carabao Cup third round, scheduled for the week beginning September 24th, this could cause further problems for the club.
