Tom Brady may be best NFL player ever, but his wife Gisele Bundchen is the breadwinner

Brazilian-born Bundchen, 38, is one of the most famous models in the world and walked the length of the stadium during the Rio 2016 Olympics opening ceremony.

She has been married to Brady since 2009 and the couple have three children.

But Gisele conceded that NFL "really is his main love – frankly it's true."

Brady will grace the Super Bowl stage for a remarkable ninth time on Sunday night and is searching for a sixth championship that will further cement his status as the best to ever play the game.

The 41-year-old remains at the peak of his powers after keeping himself in shape with a strict lifestyle and diet that includes avocado ice cream and adding electrolytes to his 25 glasses of water a day.

Brady said: “If it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today.

"I said, ‘Too bad, babe, I’m having too much fun right now.’ You know, I feel like I can still do it.

"If you love what you do and you’re capable of doing it, then I might be so bored if I wasn’t going out there knowing that I could still do it.

"So I’m going to work hard to be ready to go, and I still plan on playing for a long time.”

Brady went into last year’s Super Bowl, a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Minneapolis, under a cloud with reports of a rift in the camp.

American media outlets suggested there was friction between Brady, head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft and the future of the franchise was in doubt.

Brady has fielded questions about retirement for the last five years but continues to sit atop the quarterback mountain.

This year he has a bigger chip on his shoulder than ever with some ready to write off the Patriots and end his 18-year domination of the league.

New England struggled through the regular-season with an 11-5 record and looked out of sorts.

In the play-offs they came up against two higher-powered teams who enjoyed better seasons.

Brady and Co swatted aside the Los Angeles Chargers before beating the Kansas City Chiefs in an over-time thriller to reach the Super Bowl for a third straight year.

The 41-year-old said “everyone thinks we suck” in a television interview to motivate his team back to the NFL’s showpiece.

A remarkable 35,000 fans turned up at the Patriots’ Gillette Stadium last Sunday to send the team off to Atlanta, and Brady led a defiant chorus of “we’re still here” chants.

And when asked if there was any chance he might retire after Sunday’s clash with the Rams, Brady replied: “Zero”.
