Today's free horse racing tips: Carlisle, Chelmsford, Southwell and Wincanton – Steve Mullen's betting preview for Thursday, March 7

1.40

PEMBERLEY hasn’t been asked too many questions in novice events so is starting off handicapping here from what could end up a pretty lenient mark.

He shaped as though this step up in distance would help when fourth at Plumpton last time and this doesn’t look a strong race.

Blue April is a quirky type but he ran his best race for a long time when a good third at Taunton last time.

2.10

This looks wide open and CLONDAW ANCHOR could improve for having had a breathing operation ahead of this handicap debut.

ONE IN, ONE OUT Santini given green light but Fox Norton misses Cheltenham

He won well at Carlisle before a decent effort at Lingfield ahead of another solid run at Leicester last time out.

He hasn’t been clobbered for his handicap debut and has a tongue tie to further help with his breathing.

Myplaceatmidnight likes this trip and track and was a good third last time on the back of a game win.

He’s 10lb higher than that now but could have more to offer.

2.40

LEN BRENNAN is still improving and was a good second at Carlisle last time when a test of stamina was right up his street.

He filled the same position here in January and has been largely left alone by the handicapper. The ease in the ground today will also help.

Mystical Knight showed promise for Rebecca Curtis before losing his way and could rekindle his spark on this first outing for Anthony Honeyball.

3.15

MIRANDA was a Flat winner in France and translated all that ability to hurdles when winning easily on UK debut at Ludlow last time out.

She was still green there and did well to win despite pulling for much of the race. She was coming back from a break too so there should be more to come.

Dieu Benisse is another French import who is interesting despite having fallen on both his hurdles runs on this side of the Channel.

He was in contention both times and should have done lots of schooling for Nicky Henderson.

3.45

VIS A VIS was good enough to finish fourth in the Cesarewitch during his brief Flat career and showed promise when second on his hurdling debut at Carlisle last time out.

He made one late error that cost him his winning chance but you would expect his hurdling to improve for the experience.

Storm Arising has done well on three runs for Paul Nicholls and, while further would suit, he is good enough to figure.

4.20

TREVELYN’S CORN cost £400,000 and showed lots of promise when a close-up fourth at Ascot on debut.

He jumped well enough and had no problem seeing out a similar distance. It wouldn’t take a lot more to get off the mark.

Colditz Castle has had three hurdles runs but still looked pretty green when fourth at Plumpton latest and appears to have much more to offer.

4.55

LIZZIE LANGTON could be the answer to this opening race.

She was a good third here last time, an improvement on a previous fifth. She won here off 6lb lower in December and should be on the premises again.

River Of Intrigue is back down to the mark that saw him win at Plumpton three runs ago. He’s been well off the mark since but is capable of bouncing back.

5.30

RAVEN COURT showed lots of promise when third on his debut at Aintree last time, beaten less than two lengths.

He travelled like a useful performer before a lack of experience told in the closing stages.

Hawk’s Well was asked to make up a lot of late ground on debut at Warwick last time and should improve for that debut outing.
