Toby Alderweireld ‘willing to run down contract’ as Spurs face losing him for nothing – The Sun

TOTTENHAM defender Toby Alderweireld is ready to run down his contract and secure a free transfer, according to reports.

The Belgian centre-back, 30, had a £25million release fee is his contract which expired two weeks ago.

And with only cash-strapped Roma showing interest as he enters the last 12 months of his deal, the Mirror claims Alderweireld is in no hurry to secure an exit this summer.

From January, the ace can speak to foreign clubs and make a move for nothing at the end of the season.

Players who leave on a free can often secure higher wage packets and Alderweireld would have more options in front of him as teams look for bargains.

But Spurs still maintain some hope they can flog him before the European transfer deadline on September 2 and make some money from the defender.

Meanwhile, Daniel Levy is willing to offer Christian Eriksen an eye-watering double-your-money pay rise in a bid to keep him at the club, it has been claimed.

The Dane currently earns around £80k-a-week but the North Londoners are reportedly considering putting a £200k-a-week deal on the table to fend off Juventus.

Juve reportedly plan to sign him on a free at the end of this season to continue their reputation as the kings of Bosman.

Old Lady chiefs signed Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Gianluigi Buffon for nothing in this window alone.
