The Joe Maddon-Angels reunion is getting closer to reality

Momentum continues to build toward a reunion between Joe Maddon and the Angels.

Maddon, who spent the past five seasons with the Cubs, is scheduled to interview for the Angels’ manager position on Monday, according to multiple reports. The Athletic reports the Angels are Maddon’s top choice.

That means the Mets aren’t likely to get a chance to woo Maddon, who has been considered a front-runner for the Angels job since he and the Cubs agreed to part ways.

Maddon, 65, led the Cubs to a World Series title in 2016, snapping the franchise’s 108-year drought. But Chicago took steps back in the years since, culminating with missing the playoffs this season.

The three-time Manager of the Year spent 30 years with the Angels from 1975-2005 in various roles, beginning as a minor-league player. He became a major league coach in 1994 and had two brief stints as interim manager.

The Angels fired Brad Ausmus after going 72-90 in his lone season as the team’s manager.
