Summer transfer window verdict on every Premier League club

The transfer window has slammed shut and Premier League clubs will have to make do with the talent they have already got until January at the earliest.

Some clubs, and their fans, will be exceptionally happy with their work in the window – with Liverpool and Arsenal getting their business done early, with the likes of Bernd Leno, Naby Keita, Alisson and Lucas Torreira added between the two giants.

Mid-table sides such as Everton and West Ham have been busy rebuilding after disappointing campaigns last season, while newly promoted Fulham and Wolves have seemingly made some excellent signings.

Other sets of supporters are not happy – with Tottenham becoming the first Premier League side to not make a signing since the window was invented.

While Manchester United’s underwhelming capture of Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant failed to mask their inability to add a centre back.

But where does every club stand ahead of the big off? Darren Lewis has rated and slated them all…

Arsenal

Good, early business addressing the areas in which they were vulnerable – keeper, defence, midfield. Also their business was done early enough to ensure they were sorted and settled in good time for the new season.

Bournemouth

Just the three players in but David Brooks gives them depth in midfield and Diego Rico further strengthens them in defence while Jefferson Lerma will add some bite.

Brighton

Real coup to snatch the Valencia defender Martin Montoya from under the noses of Fulham. Good business overall.

Burnley

Failed in a last-ditch bid to land Yannick Bolasie on loan but managed to sign Matej Vydra to give them another attacking option.

Crystal Palace

Will be happy with their window. A coup to get midfielder Max Meyer. Kept Zaha and added Kouyate from West Ham.

Cardiff

Will be happy with the signings of Harry Arter from Bournemouth and 24-year-old Victor Cameras from Betis but are they enough? Could struggle.

Chelsea

Lost Courtois cheaply and paid over the odds for £71m keeper Kepa. Did gazump City for Jorginho but City look in better shape going into the season.

Everton

Lots of good late signings but aren’t they in a similar situation to last year? Mix of players that will need to gel quickly.

Fulham

They finished last season with a flourish, kept Ryan Sessegnon and added quality but they too will need to gel quickly.

Huddersfield

Signed Belgium Under-21 winger Isaac Mbenza from Ligue 1 side Montpellier on a season-long loan deal but overall their signings have failed to excite.

Leicester

Not only did they keep Harry Maguire, they added two new defenders and added keeper Danny Ward from Liverpool. A good window.

Liverpool

Sat back and relaxed after a stunning summer of business. Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Alisson meant they could chill while others panicked.

Manchester City

Only (only!) added Riyad Mahrez and didn’t get the defensive midfielder they wanted but they have so many outstanding players they will be fine.

Manchester United

What a shambles. No Godin, no Kovacic, no Alderweireld, no Maguire, no Boateng and seemingly no real plan to their transfer policy.

Newcastle

Got bodies in but nowhere near the step up in class that Benitez wanted. No wonder fans not happy with Ashley.

Southampton

A new keeper, a new defender and a new striker sneaked under the wire* in Danny Ings from Liverpool. Sound business.

Tottenham

Facepalm. Pochettino wanted fresh blood in by the start of pre-season. They ended the summer with nothing and couldn’t sell Alderweireld, Rose or Dembele. Questions being asked by fans.

Watford

Pinched Ben Foster from West Brom but otherwise an unspectacular transfer window and a tough season ahead.

West Ham

Landed Pellegrini, smashed their transfer record to revamp the side and landed Jack Wilshere. A good summer all round.

Wolves

Stunning business all round. Landed Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio, kept Ruben Neves and added versatile Dendoncker from Anderlecht. A strong first Premier League transfer window.
