Stoke set to complete deal to sign Bruno Martins Indi with defender to undergo medical

MARK HUGHES' Stoke City will complete a loan deal for Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi after the player completes his medical on Wednesday.

The Potters have agreed a deal to sign the Holland international on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal as Hughes looks to bolster his backline.

The move will see Wollscheid head back to Germany with the player agreeing a deal to join Wolfsburg.

Hughes has been in the market for a central defender and looked to be closing in on Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho after a loan offer was accepted however the player rejected the chance to play at the Bet365 stadium.

But Martins Indi looks set to be the missing link in Hughes' plans to improve his defence that conceded 55 goals in the league last season.

Wollscheid was a key figure alongside Ryan Shawcross last season but the manager has obviously lost faith in the defender that divided opinions between Stoke supporters.

The 27-year-old started Stoke's first two league matches of the season but was dropped in the 1-0 defeat to Everton.

And it seems he has played his last game in the Potteries with Martins Indi ready to slot in alongside Stoke's captain.

The former Feyenoord man, who was once linked with Manchester United, has 31 Dutch caps to his name and will add experience and pace to Stoke's defence.
