Steelers’ Antonio Brown faces two lawsuits over damage at Florida condo

A pair of lawsuits alleges that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown threw items from the 14th-floor balcony of a Florida condo building in April, damaged the unit he was renting and refused to pay for the damages, according to copies of the complaints obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

One of the lawsuits claims Brown intentionally inflicted emotional distress by throwing several items, including two vases and an ottoman, from his unit at The Mansions at Acqualina on the morning of April 24. The items landed "a mere foot or two" from a 22-month-old child and his grandfather as they walked near the pool below, according to the suit.

The suit, filed by the child's father, Ophir Sternberg, further alleges the child has "exhibited symptoms of fear and anxiety" since the incident and is "having night tremors every night."

Sternberg's lawsuit claims there is surveillance video of the items falling near the child and his grandfather, and that Brown was "extremely agitated" and yelling at building security officers when police were called to the scene. A message left with the Sunny Isles Police Department was not immediately returned Tuesday.

The second lawsuit, filed by the owner of the unit, claims Brown damaged the condo and has refused to pay for the damages. Brown signed a six-month lease for the unit in February and paid $35,000 per month for the fully furnished condo, according to a copy of the lease attached to the suit.

The lawsuits were filed on consecutive days in Miami-Dade County in August, according to court records, and each seeks more than $15,000 in damages, in addition to legal fees.

Brown's lawyer, Darren Heitner, declined to comment Tuesday morning via email.
