Spurs' new online betting partner allows gamblers to bet on illegal cock fights

Gamblers were able to wager money on scraps in the Philippines, screened live by Russia-based 1XBet.

They could also bet on live-streamed children’s footie.

One shocked punter said last night: “I’m against animal cruelty and it’s unbelievable Spurs teamed up with a betting firm promoting cock-fighting as sport.

“The club has a cockerel on its badge.

This beggars belief.”

Premier League Tottenham — whose stars include England ace Harry Kane, announced 1XBet as its Official Betting Partner for Africa last month.

The website www.uk-1xbet has a license issued by UK regulators the Gambling Commission.

It does not permit betting on cock-fighting.

But one keen gambler claimed he was encouraged to set up an account from England by stating on his 1XBet online application he lived in Cameroon.

The 1XBet web address he could access had been blocked last night.

The Gambling Commission is investigating the website.

It was yet to be determined if 1XBet addresses offering punters access to foreign sites had illegally been accessible in the UK — or if another company was responsible for the links.

Firms face a big fine for linking with an “unlicensed sponsor”.

Without filling in any ID details, The Sun observed live streams of under-10s and under-12s football on a 1XBet site.

Some games appeared to be taking place in a sports hall.

The site also offered betting on cockerels fighting to the death.

1XBet live-streams cock-fighting for countries where it is legal.

A spokesman said: “1XBet complies with all relevant licensing and laws applicable in each country.

In the event of technical issues arising on our own or partners’ websites, 1XBet pledges to investigate, resolve and rectify at the earliest opportunity.”

A Spurs spokesman said: “We take the matter very seriously and are working with 1XBet to understand what has occurred.”

Nick Weston, of the League Against Cruel Sports, said: “Cock-fighting has been outlawed in the UK for nearly 200 years, so it’s time 1XBet stopped promoting such barbarism.”
