Souness slams Pogba for 'studs up' tackle on Alli in heated row with Redknapp – having earlier trended on Twitter for PRAISING the Man Utd ace

The Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool hardman was trending on Twitter at half-time after showering praise on the performance of Manchester United's Frenchman.

Souness has been very critical of Pogba in the past, criticising his work ethic and desire on more than one occasion.

But as the panel discussed the first half, that saw United 1-0 up thanks to Pogba's assist for Rashford's goal, Souness appeared to have mellowed towards him.

He described how Pogba "had a really good half", which left Jamie Redknapp, Alex Scott and host David Jones recoiling in shock.

After the game that United won 1-0, he also re-iterated that "there is a player in there", but then turned back to criticising Pogba for a challenge on Alli.

Redknapp, meanwhile, defended the Frenchman believing he did not mean to hurt Alli, and highlighted one time he had done the same on Tim Cahill by accident.

But Souness was having none of it.

He said: "I think it's a red card, I'm sorry Jamie, and there's not one ounce of doubt in my mind, not one ounce.

"He knows what he's doing. Jamie's saying 'you step over it and use your strength to keep him away', but look at where the ball is and look where the foot is.

When you try and do that you're studs almost always face the ground."

Souness was then asked by Redknapp if he felt Pogba was "trying do to Alli", to which the Scot replied: "Most certainly. I've no idea why because it was a nothing game.

"But that's football. I would also say if that referee doesn't see that as a red card, he sees it as a foul, but if he sees that as a yellow card, he knows nothing about football.

"I have been guilty of that and I have received that and for me there is not one ounce of doubt in my mind that it wasn't him going over the ball to do him.

"He did the same to Bellerin at Arsenal."
