Shocking moment basketball star is sacked after punching opponent during match

David Samuels has been given the boot by Kapfenberg Bulls for his shocking actions during the game against Raiffeisen Flyers Wels in the Austrian Basketball Bundesliga.

In the sour clash, Wels forward Erwin Zulic dunks the ball and hangs on the rim for good measure.

But Samuels takes exception to the perceived show-boating, whacking Zulic in the back of the head, sending him flying to the ground.

Zulic was eventually lifted to his feet by his team-mates and was not seriously injured, according to reports.

New Yorker Samuels was immediately kicked-out of the game and Kapfenberg Bulls management have now confirmed they have "parted ways" with the player for his abhorrent actions.

Bulls general manager Oliver Freund said: "For such behaviour there's not much to say and nothing to consider either.

"The player has to suffer the consequences for his actions, there's no leeway and nothing to wait for.

"In our organisation and in sport in general there is no room for that. We've also immediately communicated that to the player – tomorrow he will board a trip home."

Samuels averaged 11 points and six rebounds per game in three Austrian Basketball Bundesliga appearances for Kapfenberg.
