Seedorf joins Mourinho and Pochettino on list of Real Madrid manager candidates after having dinner with president Perez

The Dutchman, 42, was in Madrid to watch the Champions League clash between two of his old clubs – Ajax and Real Madrid and attended the function at Zalacain restaurant while he was there.

The 42-year-old played for Real Madrid from 1996-99 and is said to be admired by the Bernabeu hierarchy for his leadership skills, charisma and the high regard in which he is held by Madrid fans.

According to Diario AS Seedorf attended an official board of directors' dinner and was asked about his professional situation by Perez and other members of the board.

Current Real boss Santiago Solari, 42, is expected to be sacked after their game at Valladolid on Sunday which could open the door for Seedorf to take the reins.

Real are 12 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and crashed out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey within the last fortnight.

Seedorf is currently Cameroon head coach and has experience managing in Spain as he coached Deportivo La Coruna last season.

The five-time Champions League winner was in charge at Deportivo for 16 games.

Despite their eventual relegation, he is still held in high regard by their fans and board and is considered to have adequate experience by the Madrid hierarchy due to his work with the Cameroon national team as well as AC Milan.

Seedorf would likely be appointed on an interim basis with the club still in favour of longer term targets Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp.

But, if results picked up under Seedorf, the Real board are understood to be open to the prospect of extending any deal beyond June 30.
