Ryder Cup 2018: Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas rub Phil Mickelson's belly for good luck

The pair were shown rubbing Phil Mickelson's burgeoning belly during their Saturday morning fourballs win over Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm.

Jim Furyk's side have had little to cheer about so far in Paris.

And Lefty – who has played more Ryder Cups than any other American – was dropped for both of today's sessions owing to his terrible form.

But he at least had some use seeing as Spieth and Thomas went on to triumph 2&1 over the Europeans.

That was the only American point of the morning as Thomas Bjorn's Europe side made history.

They set a new record for most consecutive matches won – eight – after a clean sweep in yesterday afternoon's foursomes.

But things went from bad to worse for Mickelson.

He and wife Amy walked back to the practice ground as the afternoon matches teed off.

They jumped into a buggy and asked to go back to the US team room – only for the buggy to fail to start.

When it rains, it pours.

Mickelson will next be in action for tomorrow's singles, but Europe already appear to have one hand on the cup.
