Riyad Mahrez's wife Rita says Man City star isn't a 'typical' footballer and still shops at Asda despite £200,000-a-week wages

Man City broke their transfer record by signing him for £60million in the summer.

But his glamorous wife Rita says she's not worried Riyad, 27, will start playing away as the Algerian prefers hoovering to partying and stays humble by shopping in Asda.

Exclusively speaking to The Sun Rita, originally from Gravesend, Kent said: "Our lifestyle is pretty lavish as everyone wants the best and to have luxury things.

"We all want that good life and luxury lifestyle because what’s everyone working hard for at the end of the day. But while it's nice to have it’s not what makes you happy.

"Riyad is a really grounded and humble guy and I hope it won't change us. I love Asda as it's so convenient and you can get some nice pyjamas in there.

"I do my own grocery shopping but it’s starting to become a problem. If Riyad’s holding shopping bags he gets people coming up to him so we might have to start sending someone for us soon."

Aspiring pop star Rita, 24, is now set to join the elite WAGs after her husband signed to one of the richest clubs in England, on reported wages of £200,000-a-week.

Yet despite the glamour and glitz of their new multi-million-pound lifestyle, the mum-of-two revealed she didn't want to date Mahrez when they first met in 2012.

She initially refused this advances after learning he was a footballer then playing for lower-league French team Le Havre – because she's was worried he'd cheat on her.

She continued: "I was walking along Oxford Street when he sweetly put his arm around me. He spoke to me with his French accent and we exchanged numbers.

"I found out he was a footballer player a week later and was like, 'Oh no, I don't want this life'. I didn't want to date a footballer because I thought there were going to be girls looking to chase him.

"I wanted to have a peaceful life and make my own success but then he pursued me and bombarded me with phonecalls and FaceTimes and it was meant to be."

The pair now have two young daughters together and plan to marry officially next year after having a religious ceremony while the Kim Kardashian lookalike was pregnant with their eldest.

Fashion conscious Rita reveals that family-man Riyad has now pledged to stay away from girls to prevent him from becoming yet another philandering footballer.

She continued: "I've never had issues and it's been smooth-sailing with us. Of course there is always temptation but Riyad says to stay away from temptation.

"You have to make sure you don't put yourself in a situation where you are going to get tempted and just be wary because a lot of people are after the wrong thing.

"He's never drunk alcohol in his life, as he's Muslim, and he doesn't go clubbing. He keeps himself to himself and isn't too sociable. Not everyone is a cheater and Riyad is different. He helps out with the hoovering at times and does stuff from his heart.

"It's more fashionable now to be a humble person and loyal husband. If you're drinking and cheating that doesn't make me respect you. His worst habit is that he’s super into football.”

While Rita's not worried about any of his new club teammates leading him astray she admits she's nervous about meeting her fellow WAGs, which include Man City keeper Ederson's wife Lais Moraes and midfielder Fernandinho's partner Glaucia Roza.

And the singer admits that a new WAG is not instantly welcomed with opening arms.

Speaking in the summer, Rita said: "I hope everyone is nice and welcomes me. I'm scared, excited and intrigued to meet them. I’m going in there with blind faith so let's see what the vibe is.

"It always takes a while when you first go to a new club as everyone is like, 'Is she going to last or is she going to be gone?' so they don't warm up to you straight away.

"When they realise you are the wife they do give you that respect and the time because they know you're going to be there for the whole time."

And she admits the competition can be just as fierce off the pitch between the designer-label loving wives.

She added: "It took a while for us to develop relationships together at Leicester City but now we all get on. There can be competition between us as everyone wants their husband to score.

"But I want everyone to be happy and don’t want anyone to be jealous.

"When you have kids you look at everyone as someone’s baby so why hate? There’s no need."

When Riyad leading Leicester City to Premier League success in 2016 it saw him crowned Premier League PFA Team of the Year and become pals with teammate Jamie Vardy.

And Rita reveals that she also formed a close relationship with the striker's wife and fellow WAG Becky, after first bonding over Twitter trolls.

She said: "I had a great relationship with Becky as she’s a lovely girl. We would talk about internet bullies as we both get it really bad.

"We know the life we are both going through and how hard it can be at times. We support each other through it."

And Rita admits she needed support when she learnt their family were set to be uprooted to Manchester alongside their new team of burly bodyguards. They had spent the past year living in London after a terrifying burglary made them flee their Leicester mansion.

She said: "The first thing I said was, 'Oh my god what am I going to do there?' as I don't know anyone. I'm so nervous about the whole situation but I'm up for the challenge and excited for what this new life is going to bring.

"I went to the Trafford Centre and it looks amazing as it looks like Dubai. I need to buy myself a
guidebook once we’ve settled in."

After Riyad signed his five-year deal the family decided to make Manchester their home and had been  on the hunt for a suitable lavish mansion to fulfil their grand designs.

She said: "I’m really into purple and blue lighting and want to put a magical fish tank in there. I also want a gym so I can work out every day and swimming pool for the kids to go swimming.

"I also want to get a walk-in wardrobe as I've got a collection of designer bags and shoes, including a Chanel bag that Riyad bought me for Christmas.

"We are also going to build a recording studio so I can finish my album."
