Rey Mysterio WWE return CONFIRMED with legend set to appear on 1000th episode of SmackDown

The high-flyer announced today the 43-year-old will be back for SmackDown Live’s 1000th episode on October 16.

Mysterio has penned a two-year contract to work again for Vince McMahon’s company.

A WWE statement said: “SmackDown 1000 now has another number of significance attached to it. That number is 619, because Rey Mysterio is back!

“The SmackDown legend will appear on the history-making episode, marking his return to the blue brand for the first time in more than four years.”

Mysterio made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble in January to the delight of fans.

That led to rumours of another potential bout at WrestleMania 34 in April.

Despite that failing to happen, he did feature in another one-off appearance at the Greatest Royal Rumble Match in Saudi Arabia in May.

Mysterio left WWE in 2015 after 13 years working for McMahon and has since participated for a number of promotions including Lucha Underground and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

He will join a number of other legendary names on the landmark episode, with Dave Bautista another star confirmed to return.
