Redzel at the same level as he takes off towards The Everest

Peter Snowden is confident Redzel will start his trek back to The Everest in similar fashion to 12 months ago in Saturday’s Concorde Stakes at Randwick.

Redzel started an unbeaten spring last year, which included  The Everest and Darley Classic, by winning the Concorde and  won   the Heath Stakes in Melbourne on this day in 2016.

Red-letter day: Kerrin McEvoy wins last year's Concorde Stakes on Redzel.

“We know him well and he is at the same level as he was when he went into this race last year,” Snowden said. “He has had two very good trials. He is really is an easy horse to train because he goes out and puts it on the track every day.

“We have an Everest slot already this year, that is the only real difference to last year and I expect him to go out run up to what he has done in the past.”

Spring has become Redzel's preferred season with six from seven starts as the temperatures get warmer in the past two years.

“It is going to be the same preparation as last year and we know he is going well,” Snowden said.

It is a quiet day for the Randwick stable with its only other runner, Pure Elation, which returns in the Furious Stakes.

She carries great autumn form, having been narrowly defeated by Golden Slipper winner Estijaab in the Reisling Stakes before two wins, including the group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes.

Pure Elation beat Fiesta and Outback Barbie in the Percy Sykes, which quinellaed thethe Silver Shadow Stakes two weeks ago, but she bled in the process.

“She has come back and showed no signs of that again, fortunately,” Snowden said. “She is a very good filly but is giving away race fitness to a few of these, which makes it tough. She has the benefit of the inside draw.”
