Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale was admitted to the hospital and will stay overnight after reporting a "stomach illness," the team announced Sunday night during Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.
Sale was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital in the afternoon, the day after he pitched in Game 1 of the series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox said Sale is being kept in the hospital for evaluation and that updates will be made available.
The left-hander tossed four innings and got a no-decision Saturday night against the Houston Astros, giving up one hit and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Sale was scheduled to pitch Game 5 on Thursday in Houston, if it is necessary in the best-of-seven format.
