Real Madrid hesitant to make move for Christian Eriksen as they fear he is 'next Gareth Bale'

Spanish media outlet Marca claims the European champions are huge fans of the Denmark playmaker, but concerns over his fitness have stopped them from making a formal offer for Eriksen.

While Bale's spell at the Bernabeu has been prolific in terms of goals it has not been without several injury problems, with Marca claiming they do not want a repeat of that with Eriksen.

The Tottenham ace has a contract at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2020, with Spurs reportedly setting his asking price at a mega £222m.

And even if that price was to drop dramatically, the Spanish giants will have second thoughts over the deal due to a persistent and chronic muscular problem.

It was only last month that his club and country expressed their concerns over an abdominal injury of his.

Speaking at the time, Denmark boss Age Hareide said: "Christian (Eriksen) has a problem with his abdominal muscle, and Tottenham have reported that it is of long-term nature.

"Such an injury can be chronic, and it is true that Tottenham are worried."

Eriksen's late winner against Inter Milan on Wednesday night at Wembley kept Spurs' Champions League knockout stage hopes alive going into their final game at Barcelona.

The 26-year-old has found the net twice for the north Londoners this season – both against Inter.
