REAL BETIS amazingly sacked Quique Setien an hour after winning at Real Madrid.
Betis even announced Setien's shock dismissal with lavish praise, after he became the first boss to land La Liga victories away to Real and Barcelona in the same campaign.
The tenth-placed club said: "Real Betis and coach Quique Setien have decided that the Spaniard will not continue leading the first team from Verdiblanco next season.
"In the last two years Setien has taken Real Betis back to European competition, significantly increased the value of the Verdiblanca squad, helped to boost the role of the youth academy and achieved great value wins that will go down in the history of Real Betis.
"For this reason, the club wishes to thank Setien and his technical staff for the work carried out during these two years, in which they have contributed to the sporting growth and stability of the entity, and wish them the best in their personal and professional future."
Just 60 minutes earlier Setien, 60, had been savouring one of the greatest wins in Betis' history.
Loren Moron and Jese sunk Zinedine Zidane's under-achievers as Madrid finished a tame third.
The home team still did a bashful lap of honour – minus Welshman Gareth Bale.
The 29-year-old was an unused sub and disappeared down the tunnel at the final whistle.
And there were soon claims from a Spanish radio station that Bale had made an astonishing remark to team-mates over his future.
Radioestadio quoted the frontman as telling them: "I've got three years left on my contract. If they want me to go, they'll need to pay me €17m per season. If not, I'll stay here. And if I have to play golf, I will."
