Rams place CB Aqib Talib on injured reserve

The Los Angeles Rams will have to navigate at least the next eight weeks without one of the stars of their secondary.

The team announced Wednesday it had placed cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve.

Talib will have to undergo surgery on an ankle injury in the Rams' 35-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that the team hoped to get the five-time Pro Bowl selection back "at some point in time.”

Fellow starting cornerback Marcus Peters suffered a calf injury in the same game but is listed as day-to-day.

After using this offseason to trade for Talib and Peters, as well as signing defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, Los Angeles now ranks eighth in total defense (296 yards per game) and first in scoring (12 points per game).

The Rams host the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.
