Ramos' plan to get booked came nine years after doing same thing against same team and stadium under Mourinho's instructions

In almost a carbon copy situation of nine years ago, the Real Madrid captain was shown a yellow card, picking up a suspension.

In 2010, he failed when trying the exact same thing, against the exact same opposition in the exact same stadium.

Ramos, 32, allegedly confessed last night “on-tape” revealing he had fouled Kasper Dolberg in order to get his name in referee’s book in the final stages in order to serve the one-game ban hanging over his head in the second match next match, which Madrid lead 2-1 after yesterday’s victory in Amsterdam.

But after television reporter Ricardo Sierra spoke to the veteran afterwards, Ramos could now be hit with a two-game suspension by Uefa for his attempts to manipulate the system.

That would mean sitting out the first clash of the quarter-final should his team secure their passage.

But despite him making his 600th appearance for the Galacticos, their supporters are entitled to think their talisman should have known better – especially as he has previous from Jose Mourinho’s time in charge nearly a decade ago.

The incident brought back memories of his sending-off at the Johan Cruyff Arena in a ridiculous conclusion to another Champions League encounter between the two sides.

Madrid were beating Ajax in their penultimate group match when Mourinho appeared to order his already-qualified men to get their suspensions out of the way for their final dead-rubber game a fortnight later.

Having spoke to sub goalie Jerzy Dudek, the ex-Liverpool stopper made his way down the touchline and passed a note to ‘keeper Iker Casillas’, who duly relayed the message to Ramos.

The centre-back and Xabi Alonso were then both sent-off for double bookable offences at the end of the routine 4-0 victory.

Each was cautioned for time wasting, with instant suspicions raised over their conduct and gamesmanship as the suspensions would be served against Auxerre before the knockout stage.

A Uefa investigation subsequently handed Mourinho a two-match touchline ban, later reduced to one match on appeal, while Ramos and Alonso were both fined but escaped any further punishment with regards to suspension.

But it looks like Ramos will be as lucky this time after his post-match confession, with Uefa already setting a precedent this season.

Porto ace Jesus Corona was handed an extra game ban for forcing a yellow card in his team’s penultimate group game.
