Queanbeyan Golf Course will get a $1.2 million facelift ahead of the 2019 NSW Women’s Open.
The NSW Women's Open is a co-sanctioned event on the Ladies European Tour, meaning the revamped club will be seen on the world stage.
Work has already begun on the course, with new bunkers and a new chipping green under way, while the clubhouse will also be improved.
Monaro member and NSW deputy premier John Barilaro announced a $1.2 million facelift for the Queanbeyan Golf Club.
Queanbeyan president Adrian Coles said the rest of the work would begin in days.
"There will be new change rooms for women and an upgraded change room for the men," he said.
"We'll be improving the look of the course – the cart paths, tees and greens and improve the bunkers.
"Come the Women's NSW Open I think the place will be exceptional. Some work is already under way on the course. The big work will kick into gear within days."
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and sports minister Stuart Ayres were on hand to make the announcement on Wednesday.
It's one of 250 projects that have received a slice of $200 million from round two of the stronger country communities fund.
Ayres said the investment was designed to increase participation and help attract big events to NSW.
"From grants for local sporting clubs to building major facilities across NSW, we are investing in the right infrastructure to attract world-class sporting events and help our communities get active," Ayres said.
The announcement comes off the back of Queanbeyan Whites Rugby Club getting $350,000 on Tuesday to build a new change room and gymnasium at Campese Oval.
It will comprise of a women’s change room, toilets, a weights room and gym, a new storage room for the club and a referee’s room and office.
Whites president Ian Darmody was thrilled with member for Monaro Barilaro's announcement.
"This new building will really boost our club from amateur to semi-professional," Darmody said.
"This is a step forward for our men’s and women’s teams, giving our women’s teams access to dressing rooms and change rooms, and allowing all players to step up their game."
