Putin gives his opinion on Khabib-McGregor brawl – and advice for Russian’s dad

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave Khabib Nurmagomedov a heroes welcome after his win over Conor McGregor – before giving his dad Abdulmanap some fatherly advice.

The Russian retained his UFC lightweight title against Conor McGregor in a bout overshadowed by a post-fight brawl.

Nurmagomedov’s brutal submission victory over Ireland’s McGregor on Saturday was followed by fights breaking out in and around the cage.

Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage before leaping feet first at McGregor’s team mate and cornerman Dillon Danis.

Three of the Russian’s team were arrested and later released.

But Putin asked Nurmagomedov’s father "not to punish him too severely"

Khabib had already revealed Vladimir phoned to congratulate him on his victory over McGregor .

His decisive victory was overshadowed by the shocking scenes which followed as Nurmagomedov attacked McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis, and the Irishman himself was assaulted by two of his conqueror’s teammates.

Nurmagomedov is now under investigation by the Nevada Athletic State Commission and has had his $2million purse withheld.

While McGregor left the arena in a hurry, the champion briefly faced the press and revealed he had spoken to his president – who invited McGregor to watch the World Cup final in Russia this summer.

Nurmagomedov said: "You talk about him having a picture with Putin; he just called me. He said he is very proud of me and said congratulations on the win."

The Dagestani could be stripped of his title by the UFC depending on the outcome of the NASC’s investgation.

He added: "First of all I want to say sorry to Nevada Athletic Commission and second to Vegas. I know this is not my best side. I’m a human being.

"But I don’t understand how people can talk about how I jump on the cage. He talked about my religion, he talked about my country, he talked about my father.

"He came to Brooklyn and he broke bus, he almost killed a couple of people. What about this s***?"
