Sherwin Shayegan, 35, was arrested Sunday on accusations of jumping on the back of a Falkville (Ala.) High School student in an attempt to get a piggyback ride and giving the player an inappropriate note, according to WHNT.
Since at least 2008, Shayegan has been banned from at least five states and arrested multiple times for charges stemming from harassment to fourth-degree assault.
He has been given the moniker the "Piggyback Bandit."
Most recently, Shayegan was arrested on harassment charges stemming from actions at Falkville High School, school resource officer Seth Sullivan told WHNT.
"After the pep rally, the football team was going to eat and the suspect jumped on one of the football player's backs," Sullivan said to the station.
Shayegan reportedly gave the football player a note and told him not to read it until after the game.
The student didn't look at it after the rally, according to WAAY 31 ABC.
He later showed his mother, who contacted police.
The note said the player looked good in shorts and had a nice bottom, Falkville Police Chief Chris Free told WAAY 31 ABC. It also included $20.
Police tracked Shayegan through a restaurant in Huntsville, Ala., and then to an Uber driver who transported him back to Hoover. The driver told police Shayegan was getting piggyback rides at Walmart, according to WHNT.
According to a Grantland article that narrates the "Piggyback Bandit's" path through the last decade, Shayegan has donated money in an attempt to think he's an alumnus, asked spectators for rides after games to different sporting events, and once handed an athlete a questionnaire that included the question "Have you ever farted during a football game or practice?"
After realizing something was strange, the athlete began to walk away. Shayegan attempted to jump on his back.
He typically researches the team meticulously and finds the best athlete, the Grantland article said.
Shayegan's mother told Grantland that he has Asperger's syndrome.
He was the manager of several sports teams when he was in high school, and one Grantland source remembered that on that football team Shayegan began receiving piggyback rides.
Around 7:30 p.m Sunday, Shayegan was arrested at a Walmart, according to AL.com. He had reportedly been raising his voice and asking people for money.
The site said that Shayegan had been reported for a similar event on Thursday, but because there was no warrant out for his arrest at the time, he was released.
The Sunday arrest came after police had put out a warrant for the accusations from the Falkville High School student.
