Paulo Dybala told Jose Mourinho there was ‘no need’ for his controversial celebration after Juventus win

United fought back from 1-0, to secure the 2-1 win away from home in the Champions League group stage match.

Former Red Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring before a late free-kick from Juan Mata and a Leonardo Bonucci own goal secured Mourinho's side a smash and grab win.

After the game Mourinho put his hand to his ear and made a gesture to the Juve fans who had taunted him for 90 minutes.

Reports suggested Dybala had insulted the United boss as he and Bonucci confronted Mourinho before the Portuguese was escorted off the pitch.

But speaking to Sky Sports, Dybala denied that he had insulted Mourinho, instead claiming that he told Mourinho his gesture was unnecessary.

Dybala said: “I just told him that there was no need to make that gesture.

“There was no need to create more tension than there already was, sometimes you get insulted and it’s bad, but to create more tension than there already is.

“I told him there was no need, I didn’t insult him. I just told him that and left.”

United’s late win in Turin saw them close the gap on Group H leaders Juventus as they sit second in the group, two points behind the Italian giants.

The Old Trafford boss has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.

However, after the midweek victory in Europe and also a last minute winner against Bournemouth in their last league game – Mourinho has lifted his side.

After the win in Turin, Mourinho explained to Sky Sport Italia that he was ‘insulted for 90 minutes’ by the home supporters, and apologised for his actions.

He said: “I was insulted for 90 minutes. I came here to do my job, nothing more.

“I didn’t offend anyone at the end, I just made a gesture that I wanted to hear them louder.

“I probably shouldn’t have done it, and with a cool head I wouldn’t have done it, but with my family insulted, including my Inter family, I reacted like this.”

Mourinho formerly managed Inter Milan from 2008-2010 leading the San Siro side to two Serie A’s titles and one Champions League trophy.

‘The Special One’ faces a second FA hearing after he was adjudged to have used foul language in Portuguese when speaking to the TV camera after his side beat Newcastle 3-2 at home.

In a post-match interview after the Juventus win, Mourinho was asked about his celebration and the 55-year-old took the opportunity to take a swipe at the FA.

He said: "Do you understand Italian? Ask the FA and they will translate for you.”
