Oklahoma moves up to No. 4, Georgia drops to No. 6 in Amway Coaches Poll

The voters in the Amway Coaches Poll don’t have the final say, of course. But if they did, Oklahoma would be the fourth playoff team.

Alabama remains No. 1, though the Crimson Tide were pushed for the first time all season. They received 62 of 64 first-place votes in the final poll of the regular season after rallying to beat Georgia in the SEC final. The Bulldogs fall from the four spot to No. 6.

ACC champion Clemson, which also finished the regular campaign with an unblemished record, holds steady at No. 2 after downing Pittsburgh for the conference title. The Tigers picked up a second No. 1 vote this week. Notre Dame, which completed a 12-0 season a week ago, remains third.

The Sooners, who avenged their lone loss of the year by beating Texas in the Big 12 title game, stay ahead of Ohio State. Texas falls out of the top 10, heading into the bowl season at No. 14. The fifth-ranked Buckeyes handled Northwestern in the Big Ten title game, but they must now hope the playoff selection committee views their overall body of work as more impressive than that of the Sooners.
