Odell Beckham doesn’t sound thrilled to be a Giant

Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t asking for a trade. He doesn’t expect rumors that teams are calling the Giants about him to result in anything before Tuesday’s trade deadline. But the star wide receiver didn’t exactly sound thrilled with his current franchise, either.

When asked if the Giants are where he wants to be, Beckham said: “This is where I’m at,” following the Giants’ fifth straight loss, 20-13 to the Redskins, at MetLife Stadium.

After dealing defensive starters Eli Apple and Damon “Snacks” Harrison last week and falling to 1-7 Sunday, the Giants seem headed for a rebuild. Beckham signed a five-year, $95 million contract in late August, making the odds of moving him long.

“It was tossed around in the offseason and I’m still here,” he said. “I don’t think I’m going anywhere. This is where I’m at. All I want to do is be the very best that I can be when I’m on the field. It’s really hard to think about [trade rumors]. It is what it is.”

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins, the highest profile Giant who could realistically be moved, was ambivalent about what happens to him, though during the week Jenkins said he would like to remain with Big Blue.

“Business is business, baby,” Jenkins said, when asked if he would prefer to be traded or held onto.

Despite the losing, Beckham has continued to put up big numbers, catching eight passes for 136 yards on Sunday. That included multiple acrobatic catches, including a 44-yard grab as he was being dragged down to the turf by Greg Stroman. He’s fourth in the league in receiving yards with 649 and tied for third in receptions with 53, although he has just two touchdowns. But those numbers haven’t resulted in any more wins for the Giants.

“It’s definitely not where I wanted to be, it’s definitely not where I envisioned this team being,” Beckham said. “It’s definitely not why I worked the hardest I could’ve worked all offseason, to come back and give my very best. I just don’t feel like on Sundays I get to do that.

“If there’s any frustration, that’s where the frustration comes from. All I want to do is come here and do whatever I can to help the team win. I know I got more in me.”
