Nigel Benn's son Harley stunned by 0-16 unknown on Billy Joe Saunders undercard

HARLEY BENN, son of British middleweight boxing icon Nigel, was beaten by a 16-0 journeyman on Saturday night.

Lee Hallett was a rank outsider, desperately looking for the first win of his career, before shocking the Stevenage crowd waiting to see Billy Joe Saunders headline.

Super-welterweight Benn started the night a 6-0 prospect with home backing and was expected to breeze through his latest opposition.

But referee Kieran McCann wisely scored the four-round fight 39-37, against the favourite, to hand the 31-year-old Canning Town underdog the first win of his year-old career.

Hallett, 31, lost his very first bout in April 2018 in the first round, getting dropped three times in the punishing bow and 15 more disappointing nights followed all over the country.

Hornchurch fighter Benn, formerly known as Andrews, recently reunited with his dad after a childhood spent largely estranged from the brilliant fighter.

But he was unable to show any of the boxing genetics on his big night.

A big left at the very end of the third round badly buzzed Benn and determined Hallett forced him to work every minute of every round.

Hallett said: “It was a shock win. I am lost for words, I just went for the win.

“When I heard the verdict I was worried they would give it to him so I was very happy to get the win.”

Benn's half-brother Conor, who was born just months apart from Harley but has a different mum, is a 22-year-old welterweight looking for his 15th consecutive win.
