Newcastle steward sacked for leaving post to take selfies with Toon stars

Musab Said left his post to have photos with captain Jamaal Lascelles and defender Ciaran Clark after the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Blackburn Rovers on January 5.

Following a hearing the Toon dismissed the 42-year-old for committing an act of gross misconduct after just 17 months working as part of the safety team.

But just days on from his untimely dismissal, Musab hopes the Premier League club can forgive and forget.

Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle, he said: "I was not expecting the decision to go that way.

"I don't think the punishment was very fair.

"To be honest, I have seen other stewards taking pictures and getting away with it.

“I was shocked when I received the letter and it said dismissal."

He added: "I made a mistake and I apologised.

"Football is one of my main passions in life. I was very happy with that job, I will do whatever I can to get it back."

Tasked with keeping fans from entering an area which allowed players to make their way from the stadium, Musab left his position, ditched his hi-vis jacket and asked the defensive pair for a picture.

His actions were immediately spotted by a supervisor who insisted the act was a "sackable offence" and sent him home.

Yet after a disciplinary summit at the ground ten days later, Musab was surprised to be found to have breached three separate club rules.

The former steward, who lives less than a mile from St James' Park added: "I was convinced I would be allowed one more chance.

"I explained to them at that moment, I went out of my head.

"I told them I regret it, I felt very bad. They thanked me for my honesty."

Musab has had photos with several high-profile professional footballers in the past and uses social media to document his various encounters.

His Twitter profile picture is with Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon, while he has previously posed for a photo with former Brazil international Kaka.
