Newcastle boss Steve Bruce hopes Andy Carroll reaches 20 games and triggers new Toon contract – The Sun

STEVE BRUCE hopes striker Andy Carroll wins a new contract at Newcastle.

The 30-year-old signed a one-year pay-as-you-play deal when he rejoined as a free agent last summer.

But SunSport understands Carroll can trigger a fresh contract if he plays 20 matches this term.

The Geordie has so far played 11 Premier League games and has made a big impact, even though he has not scored.

Boss Bruce said: “We’d be delighted to tie Andy up. I know there are stipulations in there. I think something triggers it.

“We’ll see how he is. Hopefully, another one triggers in.”
