Newcastle and Tottenham dealt Sven Botman blow as defender's agent holds talks with Euro giants after watching match

AC MILAN are favourites to land Lille star Sven Botman in the summer, reports suggest.

Botman has attracted plenty of interest as Premier League giants Newcastle and Tottenham have also been keeping tabs.

According to Football Italia, however, the Magpies and Spurs look set to miss out on the highly-rated centre-back.

That is because Milan hold the advantage in the bidding war over the Dutchman's signature.

In fact, the 22-year-old's agent Nikkie Bruinenberg was at the San Siro last night to watch the Rossoneri's 4-0 triumph against Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Bruinenberg had the opportunity to speak to club directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, who were also in attendance.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: "Meeting ongoing between the agents of Sven Botman and AC Milan board in Milano. He’s AC Milan priority as they will sign a new centre-back in June."

"Newcastle wanted to offer €50m three days before Deadline Day – but Lille considered Botman ‘untouchable’ in Jan."

Lille refused to let one of their best players leave mid-season during the January transfer window but things could be different at the end of the season.

Milan, Newcastle and Tottenham are likely to try again for the highly-rated defender.

The Serie A giants see him as a perfect replacement for Simon Kjaer, who has been plagued by injury this season.

Manager Stefano Pioli also looks set to lose Alessio Romagnoli, whose contract expires in June.

Newcastle were desperate for a new centre-back last month and landed on former Brighton ace Dan Burn in the transfer window's closing stages.
