Mourinho scouting Mendes and Pepe at Montpellier vs Lille as ex-Man Utd boss looks for new job

The Portuguese boss jetted to France where he was believed to have been watching talented winger Nicolas Pepe and Thiago Mendes in action in Lille's 0-0 draw with Montpellier.

According to Le Figaro, Mourinho is a huge fan of both players and with plenty of time on his hands, is already plotting a way to salvage his reputation as a manager.

The 56-year-old was sacked by Manchester United in December where he banked a whopping £15million severance package.

Mourinho was invited as a guest of Lille's technical director Luis Campos.

Campos worked as chief scout for Real Madrid during the Special One's stint in the Spanish capital.

But he won't be too impressed if Mourinho makes his move for Premier League target Pepe at his next club.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have all chased the rapid winger but have so far failed to lure him from the Ligue 1 side.

Mendes is another hugely-talented player at Lille and the Brazilian has impressed this season in his defensive midfield role.

With Mourinho looking for a way back into management, he has flirted with Paris Saint-Germain by admitting he can see himself working in France.

Asked about coaching in Ligue 1, Mourinho told BeIN Sports: "I can imagine that, yes. I have worked in four different countries and I like that.

"I like to get to know other cultures and to learn all the time. To work in another league would be a fantastic experience."

The Portuguese coach has won the league title in Portugal, England, Spain and Italy.
