The Mets eliminated Doug Melvin from their search for a new head of baseball operations Thursday, The Post’s Mike Puma confirmed, a surprising development after the 66-year-old baseball lifer was the only candidate who spoke with media following his interview.

That leaves high-profile agent Brodie Van Wagenen and Rays senior VP of baseball operations Chaim Bloom as the remaining options.

Bloom met Wednesday with Mets owner Fred Wilpon and COO Jeff Wilpon in a second interview, while Van Wagenen’s was Monday.
