Martin Keown claims Arsenal can LEAPFROG Chelsea into Champions League spots after battling to 2-2 draw – The Sun

ARSENAL legend Martin Keown believes his old club can beat Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot.

The BT pundit's comments came after the Gunners' 2-2 draw with the Blues on Tuesday night.

Keown, who made over 400 appearances for the Gunners, backed them to close the gap despite sitting in tenth, ten points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

He said: ''I still don't think they're [Arsenal] capable of getting the Champions League.

"I've seen enough tonight from Arsenal that maybe they can actually push towards it''.

The 53-year-old, along with former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, also praised Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for finding what they called the ''future of Arsenal'' inGabriel Martinelli.

The visitors fought back after losing David Luiz to a red card and then going a goal down.

They equalised through a magnificent solo effort from 18-year-old Brazilian Martinelli.

Chelsea took the lead once again only to see Arsenal snatch a point through Hector Bellerin three minutes from time.

Ferdinand praised the visitors' fighting spirit afterwards, saying: ''I think Arteta shouted and called for a shift in mentality.

''We've spoken about it before, they've been renowned for having a group of people with fragile mentalities.

''This could be a turning point, the way they've come back in terms of going a goal down, down to ten men, being in disarray for a while, gaining composure, and chewing out a result like this.

''The way they done it, that demands character, that demands spirit, that demands a mentality, and then added to that quality in vital moments. They've showed that in abundance today."
