Mayweather and Pacquiao fought three years ago in the most lucrative boxing match in the history of combat sports, generating £470million in pay-per-view and gate receipts.
Mayweather claimed victory via a unanimous decision in a disappointing fight that was labelled ‘The Fight Of The Century.’
Filipino Pacquiao, 39, believes he only has a “couple” of bouts left in him before he puts his 23-year career to bed.
Adrien Broner will come first for the veteran before he pursues a rematch with Mayweather.
Pacquiao told Mirror Sport: “I will have a couple more fights left in boxing.
“First I am fighting Broner and after that there is a big possibility of the Mayweather fight."
Mayweather Jr, 41, attended a press conference in Tokyo yesterday to announce he is coming back to fight 20-year-old undefeated kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan on December 31.
Pacquiao says that Floyd and he must bypass their respective fights before a second bout can be scheduled, though it is yet unknown under which code the American will compete at the end of the year.
He added: “He is coming back and we are talking about a rematch but we have to deal with these fights first.
“We met in Japan and he said he wanted to have a rematch; not this time but maybe after the January fight.
“I told him I have the belt and that I am the champion.”
“It will be different this time as there will be no excuses,” he added.
“I can’t retire with peace of mind because of the defeat. If you watch the fight, he didn't throw many punches.”
