Manchester United stars are 'cry babies lacking pride, spirit and energy,' Roy Keane blasts in extraordinary rant

The former Old Trafford captain has blasted the multi-millionaire stars and told them to roll their sleeves up, even if they have fallen out with boss Jose Mourinho.

The Republic of Ireland assistant manager, 47, has called on the players to accept that people fall out in football and to get on with the job.

Former United skipper Keane said: "We talk about football as in managers, not every player is going to get on with the manager and not every manager is going to like every player.

"But what you do as a footballer — and I've had disagreements with one or two managers — when you cross that line you play for your team.

"I don't care what fall-out you've had with your manager, if you're at each other's throats, people fall out.

"It happens in other industries, but unfortunately when you're Man United you're at one of the biggest clubs in the world, things will get exaggerated."

Keane was speaking to Notts TV in a wide-ranging interview and would have witnessed the players' limp 3-1 defeat at West Ham and 0-0 draw at Valencia.

The Irishman's legacy was bizarrely questioned by Richard Keys on beIN Sport earlier this week, but there is no doubting he is one of the greatest players the Premier League has ever seen.

His leadership, drive and ability to clean up the ball for United was invaluable during Sir Alex Ferguson's glory years — and something sorely lacking at Old Trafford today.

Keane added: "If you're a footballer for Manchester United, and you put that jersey on, you walk out and you don't give 100 per cent, because you might be upset with someone — good luck to Mourinho on this stuff.

"I'm not talking about Pogba, I'm talking about players who get upset with a manager or coaching staff and think 'I'm not going to train properly because someone upset me.'

"There's a lot of cry babies out there.

"When you walk out on that pitch you're playing for your pride, you're playing for your family, you're playing for your city, whatever that might be.

"Don't get that worried about what the manager said about you or the coaching staff said, you get out there and play.

"You can worry about it after the match.

"But play with pride, play with energy, play with spirit.

"Hopefully you can play with a bit of skill.

"You can have a bad day, but when you have a bad day, you roll your sleeves up for that jersey.

"And don't get distracted by the balloons out there."

It comes off the back of Keane's former United team-mate Paul Scholes' rant over Mourinho's management ahead of their 0-0 draw with Valencia.

The 43-year-old said: "I'm actually sat here surprised he survived after Saturday, the performance was that bad.

"He's coming out in press conferences, he's constantly having a go at players, having a go at people above him because he's not getting what he wants.

"And I think his mouth is out of control and I think he's embarrassing the club."
