Man Utd sharpest shooters in Europe as Solskjaer's deadly touch rubs off on Lukaku and Rashford

The Old Trafford outfit have managed more shots on target than any other team in Europe's top five leagues this season, according to football-observatory, despite the forwards fluffing their lines against Arsenal on Sunday in a 2-0 loss.

In all of United's games from July 1 last year to last Wednesday, the players had fired 383 shots with 186 on target, leading to a 48.6 per cent success rate.

That was enough to pip Barcelona, who had 190 shots on target from 393 attempts for a 48.3 per cent success rate.

Borussia Dortmund (46.3 per cent) and Serie A side Girona (45.8 per cent) come third and fourth respectively.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool – with the fearsome front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane – come fifth.

The Anfield side have mustered a whopping 406 shots, of which 185 were on target (45.6 per cent).

Then, apart from PSG in seventh (45 per cent), it is German sides who round out the top ten.

Curiously, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City come a lowly 12th.

They managed a staggering 483 shots but with well under half – 206 – hitting the target for a success rate of 42.7 per cent.

The Premier League leaders finished one spot behind Spurs, who had 369 shots and 158 on target (42.8 per cent).

Arsenal were the other Prem side to crack the top 20 with a 42.1 per cent success rate.

Outside of the top five leagues, Ajax were the most deadly, with 228 of their 452 shots being on target (50.4 per cent).
