Man Utd send security guard to escort home fan who was stabbed in Paris

The supporter, 44, is understood to be travelling by train from France to Manchester.

And according to journalist Andy Mitten, 'Jacko' will also have a friend with him as he makes his way back.

He tweeted: "Good news: Jacko, the MUFC fan stabbed in Paris, is en-route to Manchester from France by train. MUFC also sent a security lad to Paris to travel with him – along with a mate of Jacko's."

The fan was left fighting for his life following the historic win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

After celebrating Manchester United's victory, a taxi driver with a "large blade" took offence to the singing and threatened a female supporter.

It is believed the victim stepped in and the cabbie stabbed him in the chest.

The man is understood to have stayed in hospital in Paris over the weekend before being discharged and allowed to return home.

French police have arrested a suspect in connection with the horror attack but no weapon was found, reports claim.

Last week, United said in a statement: "We were shocked to hear about the incident with one of our fans who was stabbed while in Paris for the Champions League game. Everyone at the club wishes him well during his recovery."

Defender Diogo Dalot also sent his best wishes to the fan after learning of the "very disturbing" news.

He added: "Very disturbing to hear one of our fans was attacked in Paris, hoping he makes a full and quick recovery!

"Such a shame that these types of acts happen at football matches."

Manchester United fans unveiled a "get well soon" banner in the away section at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium yesterday to show support for the victim.
