Man Utd players hail keeper David De Gea with selfies and hilarious memes

Marcus Rashford’s first-half strike was enough to hand caretaker United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer five wins in as many league matches.

However, it wasn’t Rashford’s winner that will be remembered, as De Gea pulled off a string of world class saves to deny Tottenham the chance of levelling the game.

United players have praised their stopper, with full-back Luke Shaw posting a picture of De Gea shutting the goal with the sign saying: ‘Closed on Sunday’.

While midfielder Nemanja Matic said: Beware… We are taking over!

“Huge win tonight! @d_degeaofficial was on (fire).”

Although it wasn’t just United players praising the Spanish keeper, as Watford stopper Ben Foster explained why De Gea’s saves were so impressive.

Foster tweeted: “I see a lot of people saying all De Gea saves were straight at him, please factor in that the guy has some mad sense to know where to be at just the right time, you can’t teach that. Proper goally.”

De Gea kept out a Dele Alli header on 50 minutes that was bound for the bottom corner.

Alli was again denied 15 minutes later the midfielder went one-on-one with De Gea who made himself big as the Tottenham midfielder has his finish blocked.

Centre-back Toby Alderweireld latched onto a corner but his half-volley was again saved by the United keeper at the near post.

Perhaps De Gea’s best and most vital saves came five minutes from time as Harry Kane latched onto a Fernando Llorente pass.

The England skipper dragged the ball onto his left hook and drilled a low effort that produced a fine save low down to De Gea’s right as the Spaniard stuck his leg out to prevent a late equaliser.

The 28-year-old stopper was awarded Man of The Match and after De Gea told Sky Sports: ‘This is the real Manchester United'.

De Gea said: "We won the game against a top team, we controlled the first half but in the second half they had chances. I was feeling very well with the first two saves, it was a great game.

"I don't even remember some of the saves so I can't pick a best. The manager brought some happiness, the players are playing well and the team is very strong now.

"This is the real Manchester United.
